Current wafers are made from silicon. It is known that the diameter of silicon atoms is about 0.22 nm. Considering the distance between atoms, the theoretical limit is at least 0.5 nm, but certainly no company can do it. It is generally believed that 3nm will be the limit of the chip process technology.
In fact, since the transistor manufacturing process entered the 10nm era, it has become more difficult to continue to improve the process. In particular, Intel has stayed on the 14nm process for five years. Therefore, the best way to continue to improve the performance of the chip is to find another way. .
Recently, the research team of Fudan University recently made a breakthrough in the field of integrated circuit basic research. They invented a new logic structure that allows a single transistor to "live one person and two people", reducing the transistor area by 50% and the synchronization of storage calculations.
Zhou Peng, a professor at the School of Microelectronics at Fudan University, pointed out: "The core of this research work is to make a new structure transistor using atomic crystal molybdenum sulfide. On this basis, the team invented a new single-transistor logic structure on a single transistor. The 'AND' and 'OR' of the logic operation are implemented. Therefore, two independent transistors are required to implement the logic function, and now only one transistor is required.
If the invention is successfully industrialized, it will promote the development of integrated circuits toward lighter, faster, smaller, and lower power consumption. Relevant research results have been published online in Nature•Nanotechnology.
